Alabama Hitting On All Cylinders
By Kirven Lang

Alabama got the ball rolling with a ripple effect of verbal commitments. Herb Jones of Hale County started the trend on his 18th birthday as the first commitment of the 2017 class around 1 pm last Thursday. Then a few hours later, Alex Reese of Pelham also gave his verbal to The Tide. It didn't end there. The following day, Mississippi big man Galin Smith also verbally committed to Alabama.
Jones is a kid that has grown physically and has game has matured over time. He became the focal point for the Alabama Challenge in July who was typically led by Norcross (GA) forward Rayshaun Hammonds and Mountain Brook forward Trendon Watford. He put together some high scoring games as well as stuffing the stat sheets as helped lead the Alabama Challenge to an AAU Nationals Championship. The smooth lefty is a point forward at 6-foot-7 and uses his versatility to score, rebound and create for others. This is a huge pick up for Alabama as Jones oozes with upside and room to build muscle to his slender build. He chose Alabama over Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Georgia and Georgia Tech.

Alex Reese narrowed his choices down to Alabama and UAB. It seemed like UAB would pull another one away from the Crimson Tide as they did with William Lee but that wasn't the case this time. The Pelham forward is a skilled stretch guy who can knock down the long ball as well as play above the rim. He will surprise you with his athleticism especially if you judge him by his calm demeanor. Reese is a pretty good passer and will be great in pick & pop settings. He also has a solid frame and will get stronger once he steps foot on campus.
Assistant Coach Antoine Pettway has gotten it done again and is proving he can keep guys in state. These pick ups were needed as rival Auburn has been hot on the recruiting trail. Can Alabama also land in state top ranked John Petty, Collin Sexton (GA) and Troy Brown (NV) which are all five stars nationally.
