The 3rd Annual Battle For The Rankings brought out the talent again and as usual, the underclassmen had plans on stealing the show. I must say, they did a good job of really bringing the excitement as they added to the competition level.
CAMP CHAMPIONS (BLUE SQUAD)

Jerdarrian “JD” Davison will be a household name soon, as the 2021 6’2 G from Calhoun High School already holds offers from Alabama and Auburn. Davison made a clear statement this past weekend that he deserves to be noticed as the top player in the class. His high flying aerial attack, court vision and passion on both ends of the court really stood out. Although he doesn’t shoot many jumpers, his stroke looks good. We expect to see Davison break into national rankings within a year or so.
Jadan Coleman (2020 6’4” SG Bob Jones HS) has really grown as a player within the last six months or so and it was evident on this day. Coleman has good size on the wing at 6’4 with a full clip of three balls. He has unlimited range and really stretches the floor opening driving lanes for teammates as well as himself. His handle is underrated as he keeps defenders on their heels when they try to pressure him. Athletically, he’s maturing as his body keeps developing. Watch for Coleman to make a big jump in the next player rankings.
Alongside Coleman and Davison, Colby Jones (2020 6’5” SG Mountain Brook HS) had things rolling. He was his typical self as he didn’t make many mistakes. His jumper was falling, made athletic plays as well as the right ones. One thing we noticed that he improved on was finishing above the rim off two feet as we’ve always seen him particularly as a one foot leaper. Like Coleman, Jones has good size at 6’4-6’5 and his body continues to develop.
Running the show at the point guard for the Blue Squad was Mark Sears (2020 6’0” PG). His jumper has come a ways and the work he has put in is evident as he consistently knocked down jumpers when he took them. Defensively, he’s one of the best on ball as he has a knack for anticipating opponent’s movements. In warm-ups he was really flying above the rim so look forward to seeing something new added to his bag.
Justin Buford (2020 6’6” SF Ellwood Christian) was a workhouse as he crashed the boards hard displaying his motor. He made some big time athletic plays in transition that caught some eyes. His guard skills are still developing at 6’5-6’6 as his stroke is solid and he puts it on the floor fairly well.
One of the best shooters in attendance was Jack Dorolek (2021 6’1” G Thompson HS). He got really hot during the second game of the day as his teammates did a good job of finding him. Dorolek did a good job of getting open and knew where to be at all times.
Matthew Lanzi (2019 6’5” SF Chelsea HS) was arguably the most active guy all day. He challenged everything at the rim and his motor was relentless. He didn’t get many to fall but his stroke looked good. Nick Bonifay (2020 5’9” PG St. John Paul II) and Ahman Ellington (2019 5’11” PG Hoover HS) weren’t big in stature but both got after in on defense. Bonifay plays the game the right way and strokes it well from three. Ellington is shifty and has a nice pull-up jumper.

BIG MEN ON CAMPUS

Although the youngsters made a statement, 2019s Demond Robinson (2019 6’8” PF), Tremere Brown (6’8” PF Central-Phenix City) and Wichita St commit DeAntoni Gordon (2019 6’8” SF) were there to let them know they were the big men on campus.
The 6-foot-8 power forward Robinson absolutely punished the rim with powerful dunks every chance he got. That wasn’t the shocker though, he also showcased the ability to handle the ball and consistently knock down jumpers out to the three point line. He’s a hot commodity for mid major programs right now.
Like Robinson, Gordon has really improved his game as he looks like a legitimate wing. He had the ball on a string and knocked down the pull up jumper from midrange and three. His confidence is at an all-time high right now and at the level he is playing at, he will be hard to stop at 6’8 with his athleticism.
If you’re looking for length and athleticism, Tremere Brown is your guy. His freakish 7-foot-2 wing span and ridiculous bounce had the rims rocking at Carver-Montgomery. He was aggressive defensively putting pressure on ball handlers especially off ball screens with hard hedges leading to several fast break dunks. Brown is one of the best available players in the class of 2019 in Alabama.

BIG WINGS

He’s back! Tyler Lang (2020 6’6” SG LeFlore HS) has been a ghost for the last year and a half or so. Coming back from knee surgery in June, he looked really good and he’s not even 100% yet. His stroke looked really good and was on point either off the catch or dribble. Finished easily above the rim in traffic or fast breaks. After a solid showing, expect him to jump back into the top 10.
Another big time shooter in attendance was Dallas Howell (2020 6’6” SF Enterprise HS). The lefty has good size for the position and deep range at that. He’s sneaky athletic and caught a defender slipping in transition. Defensively, he did a good job of challenging opponents at the rim.
When we say big wing, Kirshun Thrash (2020 6’4” G Eagles Landing (GA)) definitely fits the build with his solid frame. He’s a big time scorer that knows how to use his body and is very efficient finishing at the basket. His handle is solid and never turns it over. Thrash has a complete scoring arsenal with a good stroke from three and plays well with ball screens. Not sure how much pub he’s getting in Georgia but he’s definitely deserving of it as a legitimate division-I prospect.

REMEMBER THE NAME
There’s always a couple youngsters that catch our eye against older competition. Barry Dunning (2022 6’5” SF McGill-Toolen HS) is arguably the best player in the class right now in the state of Alabama. His length and athleticism were on display as he battled for rebounds and finished plays above the rim. He handled the ball fairly well and got to spots on the floor. His jumper wasn’t consistently falling but that will come with time. Don’t be surprised if the nephew of Pete Myers grows to be around 6’8-6’9 like his father.
If you wanna see some excitement, Martavious Russell (2022 6’3” SG Sipsey Valley HS) is your guy. Big time athlete who catches defenders sleeping when challenged at the rim. He also displayed a decent handle as more of rhythm dribbles for his pull up jumpers as he knocked down a few from outside. Definitely a prospect to keep an eye on.
The youngest player in attendance was Joshua Bell (2023 5’11” G Cottage Hill Christian). Bell’s nerves showed during the first game against the talented blue squad but he got himself going during his second game of the day. His confidence was high as he hit defenders with two and three dribble pull-ups. We don’t usually accept players this young but he showed up and we gave him a shot.

A COUPLE OF SOPHOMORES
Jarvis Moss (2021 5’10” PG Selma HS) is one of the unknown kids that came in and made a name for himself. Very crafty with the ball, Moss had defenders on their heels as he mixed up drives with deep pull-up threes. He did a good job of drawing defenders and finding teammates on drop offs and kick outs. Moss looked like one of the better lead guards in the class against quality competition.
As one of the top sophomores in the state Trinity Bell (2021 6’7” F Albertiville HS) came in with a big time college ready body. He didn’t have his best outing but he did finish around the rim with power. Once he becomes a bully with his size, he will be hard to guard at this level.
A kid that I really liked was Brandon Howard (2021 6’2” G Opelika HS). He doesn’t necessarily look the part but he can definitely play it. One of the best skill sets we saw all day. Good ball handler with either hand, very unselfish and can stroke it. He’s not very athletic at this point but as he develops his body, look for him to rise as a prospect.
Still a bit raw, Bryan Bennett (6’3” SF Demopolis HS) made some athletic plays. Does a good job of crashing the offensive glass with put backs. Has a long wingspan that will allow him to be a good defender once he really learns the game a bit more. With development, Bennett can improve into a prospect.

FLYING UNDER THE RADAR
BJ Comer (2019 6’2” CG Prattville Christian) is a prospect that has improved year in year out. His body has matured and it makes his game look more appealing. He has deep range on his three ball which he shoots effortlessly and a crafty handle to get places. Athletically he is becoming a guy who can catch defenders slipping, although he didn’t have the opportunity but it’s now in his arsenal. Definitely one to recruit and get off the board.
Fresh off the football field, Justin Brooks (2019 6’0” PG Auburn HS) was banged up but it didn’t stop him from competing. Improved ball handler and got through tight spaces, Brooks found and created for teammates. He also did a good job of knocking the three ball down with efficiency. Brooks looks better every time we see him and this time was no different.
Another guy fresh off the football field was Jalen “JJ” Taylor (2019 6’2” PG Saraland). Taylor has improved so much and has definitely matured physically. He’s a big time sleeper in the class as he handles well and shoots it from three fairly well.
Last but not least, Zyon Smith (2019 6’3” CG Park Crossing HS) is a kid who improved his stock amongst college coaches in attendance. Eastern Florida and Shelton St have been in contact as the smooth combo guard displayed a good skill set. He probably had the most jumpers I’ve ever seen rattle out. Smith can truly double as point guard or off guard with his ball handling ability as well as his ability to score. All in all, Smith is a bonafide player who deserves a look.

BEST OF THE REST
Tommy Murr (2020 6’0” PG Lindsay Lane HS) was on a very small team initially and it was hard for him and teammates to showcase their abilities as their bigs weren’t able to make it. Once Murr was switched to the Blue team during the championship game, he gave us a little show of his own. Flashy ball handling and Jason Williams type passing but his best ability is the three ball.
Another kid from the Atlanta area was Benjamin Raspberry (2020 6’3” SG New Manchester (GA)). Long transition athlete reminds a bit of Kendrick Nunn. He was one of the few kids at camp with a midrange pull-up. Raspberry didn’t waste dribbles and got from one point to another in a blur.
