Burnett Still The Leader In 2020
There have been many changes in this class within the last few months or so. Kids have developed while some haven’t. At the moment, this class doesn’t have much size at all but has had a lot of hype since the kids middle school days. After evaluating the talent during the school year and travel ball, we aren’t so sure this class will actually live up to the hype but will produce some prospects for sure.
Antwan Burnett has been a household name on the court and gridiron for some time and has lived up to the hype on both ends. He was the leading scorer for Sidney Lanier this year but has transferred to rival school Carver-Montgomery following the season. Burnett has been playing up an age group with the Alabama Fusion 16 & under team and has led them in scoring as well. He had a 36 point effort against Team United, one of the top EYBL 16U teams and also had a 44 point effort at Ballin On The Bay in Mobile Alabama against Texas Elite Warriors. Auburn has shown the most interest thus far but Burnett holds several SEC offers in football. Zondrick Garrett and Colby Jones have both really emerged during the high school and travel season. They both play together for the Alabama Fusion 15U team on the EYBL circuit and Garrett’s arrival during the middle of the season has made a huge difference. His shot blocking ability is impeccable plus he’s freakishly athleticism and length assists him in finishing everything above the rim. Jones is easily one of the most efficient scorers in the class and doesn’t make many bad decisions. He doesn’t force shots but ends up with 15-20 points every out. Scores well in transition and has a nice stroke. His brother CJ Jones is currently frosh at Arkansas but look for the younger Jones to emerge on the national circuit in the next year or so. |
Mark Sears and Kam Woods also compete on the 15U Alabama Fusion and have done a good job holding down the backcourt. Both do a good job or handling the ball under pressure with Woods being more of a scorer while Sears usually mixes it up. Sears has a better frame and athleticism and Jones has shooting range from anywhere in the gym. Auburn Head Coach Bruce Pearl was on hand at Boo Williams and Woods put on a shooting clinic in front of the “Ole Ball Coach”.
Tyler Lang is a kid who was pubbed as arguably the best frosh during the high school season but hasn’t played any travel ball so his development is unknowingly at the moment. Willie Screws was also a highly publicized kid early on. He plays really hard but his height for his position is a question mark right now. If he ends up growing, then he will easily climb the rankings again. More and more kids will start to emerge in this class as the years go on. Check out the updated class of 2020 player rankings. |
