Cam Horton Is The Name
By Kirven lang
Cam Horton was fairly an unknown coming into the July evaluation period. A talented and gifted athlete from Jacksonville, Alabama, Horton is arguably the best point in the state nobody knows about.
May 25, 2015 we got a tweet from the Alabama Generals twitter account saying "...should be in your top 20 in the state" attached with a YouTube link. After watching the first thirty seconds or so, it was evident that Alabama Generals head coach Daniel Jackson was right. I immediately started to send the video out to college coaches in my contacts but only two responded, Texas Rio Grande Valley and Troy. Texas Rio Grande Valley has been consistently involved in his recruitment since that day.
The Alabama Generals traveled to Atlanta, Georgia for the first live period weekend in July.On The Radar Hoops Elite 32 was the stop. This was my first opportunity watching Horton in person and he did not disappoint. With Texas Rio Grande Valley watching, Horton displayed a complete offensive arsenal. His squad wasn't on the main court and his team didn't consist of any known division-I prospects so most coaches didn't even look that way. It didn't take long though before a coach glanced over and saw how Horton was performing and it was an assistant from Kansas St. He started to thumb through his coaches packet and then went to the scorers table at half time. It was obvious who intrigued him and he contacted me after the event inquiring about Horton.

Horton was able to get wherever he wanted when he wanted. He showcased a really good handle and had the ball on a string and was very shifty. He was consistent from the field and shot a high percentage from three point land with either a pull up or off the catch. Horton seemed to always be thinking two frames ahead as he knew when to drive, shoot the mid range or make the right pass for easy buckets to teammates. What was so intriguing was I can't recall a turnover nor recognize a key weakness that he has on the court. He also has the ability to be a lock down defender and moves well laterally. His athleticism is definitely above average and can finish over and around defenders.

Elite 32 was the only event Horton attended during July but it was enough to see how talented he was on both ends of the floor. He stated Texas Rio Grande Valley is his favorite right now "(Coach Willie Watson) has been 100 from the start." After flying under the radar for so long, Horton is so excited that he has fielded calls from division-I coaches like a dream come true. Most kids this talented are used to the attention going into their senior season but it goes to show there is still talent waiting to be discovered.
Cam Horton currently sits at #27 in our player rankings for the class of 2016 but expect to see a big jump in the next rankings that will be released later this month. Check out his junior season highlights below to see what college coaches have been missing.
