Day Chooses North Florida
By Kirven Lang
Two weeks after showcasing Trip Day in an article about bigs who are sleepers, he receives an offer from North Florida and decides to run with it. The 6-foot-7 stretch four man verbally committed to North Florida early this morning adding another division-I commitment/signee to the class of 2017.
Day was a kid who was heavily recruited earlier in his high school career before a knee injury sat him for a while. Surgery was successful and once he got his strength back, it was like it never happened. "It did but it didn't make me lose faith and the drive to play." answered Day when asked if he became discouraged when the knee injury occurred. "After surgery I gained 50 lbs and got up to 250 (lbs). I worked my butt off to lose 50 (lbs) and get to 200 (lbs). I never quit. I knew I still had it in me. My knee is not an issue at all anymore. I'm in the best shape of my life!"
Once North Florida came into the picture, Day was instantly excited. "They felt like family immediately, I could trust them." said Day. It was a no brainer for him as he stated Coach Driscoll and staff have strong religious values in the way they do things.
Day will be competing with his Glenwood Academy squad today in the AISA AAA quarterfinals taking on Morgan Academy at 10:30 am. North Florida has been making a splash in Alabama recently by recruiting kids from the 2017-2020 class. Looks like they're trying to build a pipeline in the sleeper hotbed state.
