Garrison Brooks To Mississippi State
bY kIRVEN LANG
Mississippi State landed a big commitment, literally and figuratively, in 6-foot-9 Garrison Brooks of Auburn High School. It probably didn't come off as a surprise given that his father George Brooks is an assistant coach under Ben Howland. Relationships are key in recruiting and this proved to be a worthy one.
Brooks' recruitment had really taken off during July when he decided to make a move from the Georgia Stars (Nike EYBL) to Team Carroll (Adidas Gauntlet) and it paid dividends. He chose Mississippi State over the likes of Auburn, Georgia, LSU and North Carolina. Looking from the outside-in, it seemed to be a two man race between Mississippi State and UNC while giving the slight edge to the Bulldogs as they pulled it out.
Brooks is a talented four man who can stretch the floor and moves with fluidity. He added an element to his game during July by simply playing harder and being a garbage man. During the Adidas Nations, it showed as his teammates took a bulk of the shots and Brooks cleaned up the glass while getting buckets from his own production.
He will join a class that already had commitments from guard Nick Weatherspoon, whose brother Quindary Weatherspoon was the third leading scorer as frosh for Mississippi State last season. Big man Keyshawn Feazell verbally committed to the Bulldogs while de-committing from Iowa State simultaneously.
