How’s The Class of 2018 Doing: JUCO Signees
Of course there will be more junior college signees due to the large amount of junior colleges in the state of Alabama. Alabama has one of the larger regions with 16 teams and that’s actually a reduced number as several programs decided to end their athletics over the years. With that being said, we won’t mention every kid that has signed to play junior college basketball from the state of Alabama as some do actually decide to either compete in more competitive leagues or simply want to leave the state.
Travarus Carroll decided to sign with Itawamba (MS) during the early period which raised some eyebrows. He hasn’t been putting up the numbers he did at Huffman but he may start turning the corner as he had 11 points in the Indians last game against Gadsden St.
Bryant “BJ” Lancaster has really been on fire this season for Shelton St. He’s currently #7 in the state in scoring averaging 17 points in the first three games of the year. He leads the team in scoring while shooting 57.9% from three and 90.9% from the free throw line. Lancaster had 26 in a close battle against Central Georgia Tech. He should be a hot commodity for four years.
Nick Preyer may be the most productive season of anybody in the class thus far as he starts the point guard spot for East Central in Mississippi. His squad is 3-0 and Preyer is averaging 15.7 points 6 assist while shooting 54.5% from three and 90% from the free throw line. In the first game of the season against Bishop St in his hometown Mobile, Alabama, Preyer was limited to only 7 minutes of action due to foul trouble and still managed to score 14 points.
Markise Davis was one of the hottest prospects at one point after having a coming out party at our Battle For The Rankings event. He landed at Wallace-Hanceville and was pretty good during summer events and pre-season jamborees. Davis suffered a concussion and hasn’t played this season but once he comes back, expect him to make a splash.
Daviyon Dennis is another Paul Bryant kid that made it to the next level and Butler CC in Kansas was the spot. The Jayhawk league is tough and one of the best in the country. He hasn’t really put up big numbers yet as he has been limited in playing time but he has shown promise.
Fabian Bell is a kid who put up some big numbers in high school at Austin. He has been solid for Snead St coming off the bench averaging 6.8 points. He had a college career high of 14 against Lagrange JV.
Jeric Packer is also at Snead St and he starts at the one spot for the Parsons. His numbers really aren’t impressive as he is more of a true point guard, run the show type of guy. In the Parsons most recent win over Chattanooga State, Packer registered 7 assists.
Jason King is having a strong freshman campaign for Snead St averaging 11.5 points a game. He’s shooting 63.6% from the three and that’s unexpected as he wasn’t primed as a shooter but more as an athlete in high school. He will be a hot commodity for four year coaches come sophomore season.
Shakari Williams is another talented freshman that signed with Snead St. The 6-foot-6 guard has all the tools to be really good. He is currently averaging only 6 points but once he comes into his own, he will be a problem.
Darron Howard didn’t go too far from home as the Sparkman standout signed with Columbia St in Tennessee. He’s currently averaging 11 points, logging 16 points in his first college game. Howard’s stats aren’t logged for the first two games against some stiff competition but nonetheless, he’s taking advantage of the games he has played.
Jonathan Bolden was fairly unknown in high school and attended our Rod Scott Unsigned Senior Showcase. He was a high school teammate of Howard and signed with Columbia St as well. Currently, Bolden is averaging 8.6 rebounds and 2 blocks. He’s made the most of his situation and it’s paying off.
Tyler Stallworth made a decision early to attend Coastal Alabama-Bay Minette and he has been very valuable to the Sun Chiefs. He is averaging 10 points 7 assists and 4.7 rebounds. Stallworth started his young career with an 18 point 9 assists game and win over Gulf Coast St. He recently had a 20 point 10 assist 6 rebound game against Gadsden St. Flirting with triple doubles early in his career has his team rolling at 6-1 and is one of the most productive frosh around.
Marcus Bates is the last Paul Bryant stud that made it to the next level. He signed with East Central in Mississippi as the second Alabama kid on the roster next to Preyer. Bates hasn’t put up big numbers yet but as the season goes on expect his production to increase as he will be needed down the stretch.
Miguel Williams had a coming out party last year at Columbia last year and has continued that play at Bevill St. He’s currently averaging 13.5 points through the first two games. Bevill St has input the stats for their most recent games.

Kendrick Buskey signed with Gadsden St after a solid senior season at Daphne. He missed the first three games of the season due to injury but is back. Buskey managed 13 points in a win over Talladega JV in their most recent game.
Jacorey Turnipseed was a part of a loaded Sumter Central squad last year and he is continuing his career at Marion Military. He’s averaging 7.5 points and has had his best games against Huntingdon JV with 13 points the first outing and 11 points the most recent contest.
