John Petty Is Rolling With The Tide

Alabama has just put together arguably the best recruiting class ever in the state with the commitment of John Petty last night prior to Mae Jemison's inaugural home game. Petty is the first five star basketball prospect (ESPN #25) to sign with the Crimson Tide since JaMychal Green of St. Jude back in 2008 unless you want to argue Trevor Lacey who was a four star on ESPN but a five star on Rivals. Similar to Petty who is a five star on ESPN but a four star on Rivals. Either way, the addition of the 6-foot-6 swing man ,who is the reigning Mr. Basketball and back-to-back state champion, definitely puts Alabama in great position to compete for a national championship.
Petty was really the icing on the cake last night as five star guard Collin Sexton of Pebblebrook High School in Georgia committed to the Crimson Tide yesterday evening as well. The class Alabama has put together is probably the most complete class thus far. Combo Guard in Collin Sexton (6'2), Shooting Guard in John Petty (6'6), versatile Guard Herb Jones (6'7), skilled Power Forward Alex Reese (6'9) and athletic tough guy Power Forward Galin Smith.
The work of assistant coach Antoine Pettway has really showed. He has managed to keep Petty, Jones and Reese in state along with building a relationship with Sexton and Smith before either of them really took off on the big stage.
To cap the night off, Petty led his Mae Jemison Jags to their first ever win, 72-33 over Huntsville High, while he finished with 35 points. Check out some of the highlights courtesy of Daz Goodman of Live Prep Nation and Jared Jones of Alabama Elite Hoops.
