John Petty Remains Afloat; Tevin Brown Rises In 2017 Rankings
The class of 2017 is top heavy and doesn't have nearly as much depth as the class of 2017. But when it comes to pro potential, division-I prospects and high major talent, Alabama hasn't had a better class in years. There is good size for position, skill sets, athleticism along with potential to go along with this star studded class.
John Petty is still afloat at the top spot. He had an unworthy spring during the travel season and decided to make some changes. Making the move from WACG to Team Penny seemed to have done Petty some justice as he looked like the John Petty we've come to know plus more. Petty and Team Penny lost in the final four of Peach Jam to PSA Cardinals after giving up a 20-point lead. He has more than likely solidified his spot again as a five-star prospect and a potential McDonald's All American.
Austin Wiley jumps back to the #2 position with his health being intact and also winning an U17 FIBA Gold Medal with Team USA. He looks better than ever and was a force to reckon with in his return with Team Thad. Wiley was one of several players who decided to compete in the Alabama North/South All Star game in July and it wasn't much of a fair match up. Wiley is also a five-star on most national recruiting sites and the Auburn commit is one of three prospects committed to the Tigers who now has the #1 recruiting class nationally.
Herb Jones has been buzzing on the recruiting trail hauling in numerous high major offers from Big 6 programs across the country. Jones' potential is evident along with his physical stature at 6'7 playing the point guard position at times. There's a good chance that he will jump higher into most national rankings especially with the big July he had winning an AAU National Championship with the Alabama Challenge.
Another stud who's been buzzing lately is Garrison Brooks. Like Petty, Brooks had a quite disappointing spring and decided to make the move from the Georgia Stars on the EYBL circuit to Team Carroll which competes on the Adidas circuit. It was a good move for the 6'9 power forward who teamed up with the other high major prospects in Alex Reese and Jamal Johnson who both follow right behind Brooks in the player rankings.

THE COME UPS
There are always stocks risers in the rankings and we have several. For starters, Tevin Brown of Fairhope is the hottest mid major target in the south right now. He currently holds 25 offers and looking for the high majors to start buying in. Brown had an extremely productive summer with Florida-based CP25 SE Elite-FBC. After the first NCAA Live Period, Brown had no offers and he slowly picked some up during June by attending elite camps but in July he took off. Bruce Pearl has been keeping an eye on him the same way he did with current Auburn Tiger, Bryce Brown.
Brown did some recruiting of his own by getting his Baldwin County area foe to play travel ball with him. Deontaye "DD" Buskey of Daphne also had a productive summer. He picked a few offers with his latest coming from Charleston Southern. The athletic lead guard also holds an offer from Stetson, where Mobile, Alabama native Divine Myles has been a starter at the point guard position for the past two seasons.
Javan Johnson struggled with injuries during the spring but bounced back strong in July with Team Carroll. He's been racking up the offers and is a potential high major prospect. He will probably be sought after more once some of the bigger named kids start to make verbal commitments in the near future.
Sacred Heart is returning their backcourt in DJ Heath and Kevion Nolan who both had good summers. Heath decided to play with the Alabama Generals and similar success like Cam Horton did last year competing with the Generals. After seeing his stock drop, Heath came back strong as ever reeling in some good mid major offers. He finished his summer with Team Carroll in Vegas and did a good job of running the show.
Nolan shot the skin off the rock but is still under appreciated on the recruiting level and that's probably due to his size playing off the ball. Samford and Jacksonville are courting him really hard while UC-Santa Barbara jumped in as Nolan helped lead the Alabama Challenge to an AAU National Championship on ESPN3.
Malik Burnett saw his stock rise during in July as he went for 40 against the Atlanta All Stars in Suwanee, GA. He shot the ball efficiently and has the capability of putting up big numbers on any given day/night. His brother, Tracey Burnett, signed with Alabama A&M last year but the younger Burnett has some pretty good mid major schools on his trail right now so we don't see a likely reunion on the court.
