Jones, Brooks & Brown Are Blowing Up
By Kirven Lang

Herb Jones (Hale County/Alabama Challenge) has always been a talented kid most people in the state of Alabama knew about. He's always been very skilled and always has been a key contributor on the varsity level since he was a middle school kid competing for 1A State Championships at Sunshine before the school's closure. Jones has always been a kid who has grown at least two inches and shocks people every time they see him when travel season comes around because he has grown so much. One thing for sure, Herb is finally getting his due diligence.
Jones is hands down one of the most talented kids in the state at 6-foot-7 with a natural feel for the game. He runs the point guard position, rebounds and best of all, he's a lefty. There are games where you might not think Jones has been effective but when you look at the stat sheet you can see where he made a difference. His size and game resembles former LSU guard Tim Quarterman who is on the Charlotte Hornets summer league squad.
In less than a month, Jones has received several high major offers. First their were two mid major offers from Santa Clara and South Alabama then the big guns started rolling. Florida and Georgia Tech offered at the end of June right before the live period began then after his stellar performances at the Peach Invitational, Florida State and Georgia extended offers. What caught everyone's eye was Kansas jumping into his recruitment along with Providence and Iowa St. UAB was the first school to offer him followed by Auburn. Alabama extended an offer in May. Moundville is pretty much right down the street from Tuscaloosa so they will have an advantage when it comes to showing their faces. UAB was the first to offer and has done a good job of recruiting high major talent in the state.
It will be interesting to see how Jones' recruitment pans out and to see if he will climb in national rankings because he definitely will rise in ours.

With Brooks' father being an assistant coach at Mississippi State, you would think they would be a clear cut favorite but lately that doesn't seem to matter to the other schools that have jumped into his recruitment. Garrison Brooks (Auburn/Team Carroll) has been on an offering spree himself this month. We can see Brooks picking up at least a dozen offers here during the month of July like Kevin Morris did for Southeast Elite (Now Team Carroll) last summer.
VCU, Arizona St and Arkansas have all offered after Brooks play during Summer Havoc and The Elite 32 Session II. Brooks had already received offers from Alabama, Auburn, UAB, Georgia, Mississippi St, Florida St, Georgia Tech and Florida Gulf Coast. Even though his dad coaches at Mississippi St, you would have to think Auburn has an advantage also since that is Brooks' hometown.
The 6-foot-9 power forward is smooth with a pretty good skill set and sneaky athleticism. His move from the Georgia Stars to Team Carroll has definitely worked in his favor playing with familiar teammates Jamal Johnson and Alex Reese.

Tevin Brown (Fairhope/CP25 SE Elite FBC) has been a hot name since the high school basketball season after putting up some big scoring numbers. He has continued to do that with Florida-based CP25 SE Elite-FBC. Known as a high level shooter, Brown has improved his handle and is a decent athlete with speed with the ball in his hands. His travel team has really been marketing him but coaches got to see it for themselves during the Summer Havoc.
North Carolina A&T, Charleston Southern, Middle Tennessee, Florida Gulf Coast and Old Dominion have all extended offers during the event. Brown had already had offers from a host of low-major and mid-major programs; Alabama St, Alcorn St, ETSU, Mississippi Valley, New Orleans, Northern Arizona and Stetson.
With good size at 6-foot-4 on the wing, Brown has the ability to push the rock and create for others. His passing ability is probably his second best attribute along with his IQ for the game and ability to get open and create his own shot. The next two weekends will be critical to see what coaches continue to follow him and make him a priority. Brown is definitely too low in our rankings which we released after last years evaluation period. Expect him to rise into the top 10 this week.
