Langford Commits To Izzo
Joshua Langford has been a household name throughout the state of Alabama since his junior high school days. Starting varsity at Madison Academy since a seventh grader, he always seemed to be the best player on the court regardless of who he had to face. It seemed like yesterday we watched him in the state semi-final game as an eighth grader making spectacular play after spectacular play. Now he has made his college decision to verbally commit to Tom Izzo and the Michigan State Spartans.
He's familiar with wearing green when he travels with his Atlanta Celtics travel squad but this green uniform will sport a swoosh and probably the newest design Nike has to offer. Either way, Langford already has a college ready body and will make an immediate impact once he steps foot on campus in Lansing, Michigan. Yes, once he steps foot on campus his impact will be felt as he will bring a sigh of relief to every Spartan in the basketball family. The family oriented Langford will fit right in with the Sparty family which should allow him to really open up and be himself.
Finding the right fit was what the 6-foot-6 combo guard did as he and his family patiently waited and found home away from home. Once Kentucky had extended an offer to Langford, everyone and their mother expected him to take the offer and run with it. We can easily look at John Calipari's track record of "One And Dones" the past ten years but if you search a little deeper, Tom Izzo has a track record of NBA stars himself. With current stars like Zach Randolph, Jason Richardson and NBA champion Draymond Green, its simple to say Izzo has produced not just pros but stars and champions.
With a host of offers including in-state schools Alabama and Auburn, Langford also had offers from Arizona, Duke, Kentucky, Mississippi St, Texas and many others. It may be a big blow for Alabama and Auburn but on Langford's behalf, Izzo has a track record of developing his players and teaches them how to win. Winning is what Langford is used to as the current state champion will be looking to seek another title with his Madison Academy Warriors while playing a Magic Johnson type role prior to being a Spartan.
Note: We spoke to Josh Langford's father Tellus but decided not to be a burden today as we are sure a lot of media has come their way within the past few hours.
