Notes From Week 1
John Petty decided to verbally commit to Alabama and led his Mae Jemison squad to a 72-33 blowout victory over Huntsville High. He finished the game with the 35 points and a ton of highlights.
Sacred Heart lost a 90-88 thriller to Pebblebrook (GA) but got monster games from Samford signee Kevion Nolan and 2018 Diante Wood. Nolan finished with 30 points (6/10 3 FG), 8 rebs and 5 assts while Wood finished with 23 points, 9 rebs and 8 assts.
The Murphy Panthers got off to a 2-0 start with double digit victories over both Baker and LeFlore. The Panthers defeated Baker on the road 82-64 and a home victory over LeFlore 73-59. Senior guard Ronitrick Welch has been leading the charge and looks to be a good college prospect at 6-foot-3.
In LeFlore's first game which ended in a loss to Murphy, 2019 DeAntoni Gordon finished with 14 points, 7 rebs and 6 blocks before fouling out. His future looks promising for sure as he has vastly improved from this time last season.
Coach Cedric Lane has Pinson Valley rolling as they defeated Jackson-Olin 132-65 in their first game and followed it with a 79-48 victory over Hewitt-Trussville.
Baker has dropped a couple games early but it doesn't negate the efforts of 6-foot-5 junior wing William Kelley and 5-foot-7 point guard Tyler Walker. Kelley is a lights out shooter from deep and can really stretch the defense. He will be a kid division-I coaches will start clocking in the near future, especially with added athleticism. Walker is lightning quick and got into the lane at will. He finds teammates and is a decent mid range shooter.
Henry Ruggs had a monster poster dunk over a Spain Park defender as they routed the Jaguars 68-51. Ruggs finished with 15 points and several emphatic dunks. 2019 Demond Robinson finished with 10 points and 12 rebs. Memphis signee Jamal Johnson was the bright spot for Spain Park.
Alabama A&M signee DeAndre Robinson led Monroe County to a blowout victory over rival J.F. Shields. Robinson finished with 19 points and 14 rebounds.
Jeff Davis defeated Brewbaker Tech led by 6-foot-2 senior guard Jalen Green who posted a triple-double, 15 points, 10 assists and 12 rebounds. Tedarion Aaron cashed in a mean 31 points for Jeff Davis.
Junior standout Ladarius Knight had monstrous game in a double-OT thriller as he led Ashford to a 107-100 victory over Rehobeth. He posted 40 points, 11 blocks and 14 rebounds. His buzzer beating three sent the game into overtime.
Murray State signee Tevin Brown dropped 37 points in Fairhope's first game and win over Gulf Shores. The Pirates won 62-33 as Brown outscored Gulf Shores by his lonesome.
Charleston Southern signee Deontaye Buskey had 22 points in Daphne's first game and victory of the year over Williamson, 61-47.
