Payton Stovall & DeAndre Robinson Are Off The Board
By Kirven Lang
North Alabama got a pledge from Winfield point guard Payton Stovall Monday night. Stovall is a crafty point guard who had a pretty good summer with Team Carroll on the Adidas Gauntlet Circuit and its safe to say that Coach Bobby Champagne has landed a big commitment here early in the recruiting period.
Stovall reminds us of former Enterprise High School and Western Carolina point guard Rhett Harrelson. He can knock down the three ball, which he did very efficiently in Las Vegas, gets to spots on the floor and finds open teammates. The relationship that North Alabama has with Team Carroll is as close to home as you can get. Graduate Assistant Daniel Williams was a coach for Team Carroll the past few years before landing at North Alabama recently. It's safe to say Stovall will be in good hands.
There will be some competition at the point guard position with Tavares Tolliver returning who played in all 29-games and averaged a little over eight points per game. Former Homewood point guard and 6A State Champion Austin Patterson will be a frosh this year competing for playing time but the fact that Stovall was so sought after by Coach Champagne and his staff means they have a vision for him.

DeAndre Robinson is a kid who made a name for himself early during his high school career. Alabama A&M was one of the first division-I schools to offer and they got the job done Tuesday night when Robinson verbally committed.
There were several mid major programs recruiting Johnson but he obviously stuck with the program who was there consistently. Robinson started the travel circuit with Team Carroll on the Adidas Circuit before switching over to the Birmingham Storm during July. The Monroe County product will look to make it back to the final four this year with less pressure on his back about what school he will be attending next fall. Every year he has improved his game on the perimeter which is pivotal because at 6-foot-5, he will need to be more of a wing. There are undersized guys in the SWAC but most of them are either really athletic or really strong. At this stage, Robinson is neither but he does have a pretty good IQ for the game and a decent skill set to be effective. Some time on a division-I college campus will help with strength and athleticism which will take his game to another level. |
