Tevin Brown Commits to Murray State
By Kirven Lang
There aren't very many people from Fairhope, Alabama that can say they have played division-I basketball but Tevin Brown will be able to. He's from an area that is heavily recruited in football and not too far from the beach. While most of his classmates were hitting the waves and casting their rods during the spring and summer, Brown was on the travel circuit battling for scholarships and getting better along the way.
Brown put up tremendous scoring numbers during his junior season and started to make a name for himself around the state but it still wasn't quite good enough for a lot of us doubters who tend to be very hard on kids who are basketball prospects. Most people in the Mobile/Baldwin County area don't watch much college basketball outside of the power conferences and every player they see, the only comparison they have is high major college players and NBA guys. Then their are services like us, BAMAMIXTAPE, who are shaky at times when the level of competition isn't that high in high school basketball here in this area sometimes.
With all that being said, Tevin Brown was simply a kid who had gotten better during the off season and opened the eyes of college coaches, scouting services and spectators especially during the month of July. He had a pretty good spring but it was just like his high school season, it just wasn't enough despite putting up some pretty good numbers in front of several division-I coaches. July was a different story as he had picked up a few offers by attending some elite camps during June.
Phenom's Summer Havoc Live in South Carolina was the event Tevin Brown really had his coming out party. He consistently put up big scoring numbers each game in front of a couple dozen coaches. After each game you would see on twitter feeds "Tevin Brown has been offered by..." In the middle of the pack of the 25 offers Brown received, Murray St decided to throw their name into the hat.

"Not at all. I always felt I was good enough, just needed to to work a little harder and find a better travel team." said Brown when asked if there was ever a point where he felt he might not ever get a division-I scholarship. Before competing with CP25 SE Elite-FBC, Brown was with PCBC Stars, a local team he had been competing with for some time. The team was very talented but Brown just wasn't getting the buzz that he'd wanted and that's when he and Deontaye Buskey both made the trip to play with the Florida Basketball Club.
After narrowing his list down to 6 and setting official visits, it was almost a guarantee that everyone knew Brown would end up at Murray State especially with the success the Racers have had with Alabama kids. Ed Daniels and Jeffery Moss both had stellar careers at Murray State and it looks like Tevin Brown will be the next in line with his high IQ and sharp shooting abilities.
