We Have A New Captain IN 2018
Its funny how the tables turn year after year. Trey Jemison has turned that table and moves from the #10 spot to the top spot after winning a 6A State Championship and an AAU National Championship. After receiving offers from numerous high major programs over the course of June and July, it is almost impossible to not rank the 6-foot-10 center from Homewood High School in the top spot. UAB extended an offer early in Jemison's career followed by several other mid major programs but after his tough hard nosed performances during the Nike Elite 100 camp, people began to take notice. Jemison followed his camp performance with a productive July at the Peach Invitational and won an AAU National Championship with his Alabama Challenge squad. He also followed that with some decent games during the AAU Super Showcase. Alabama, Auburn, Georgia and Stanford are the high majors who have already put their names in the offering plate along with a brand new offer from Arkansas-Little Rock today.
Sacred Heart Catholic small forward Diante Wood was almost a go for the #1 position in June until Jemison's late push prevailed. Wood picked up an offer from Alabama during their elite camp in June where Jemison was also in attendance but that offer was already coming prior to the camp. New Mexico St and UAB were among the first to offer Wood. Don't count count UAB out just yet, they are playing hard ball on the recruiting circuit and have been involved with most of the top kids in the state. Iowa St also put their names in the hat in early July. Wood was rather quiet during the month of July with his Georgia Stars 16U squad but we expect a big high school season from the defending 1A state champ.
Tony Johnson has pretty much been the top dog in the class until recently. At this moment, he is easily the most skilled but the upside of Jemison and Wood along with their size for the position is hard to overlook. Johnson had a stellar high school season but an up & down travel season. He showed flashes of what he is capable of and will more than likely run the show next year with AAU National Champion teammate Trey Jemison with the Alabama Challenge. With offers from Auburn, Georgia and St. Louis, Johnson and his Eufaula squad looked pretty good at Alabama's team camp and expect to make a run in 5A.
One of the best studs during the high school season was Myreon Jones who has now grown to 6-foot-3 in stature. Jones putting on shooting clinics and flushed some nasty poster dunks along the way. He had really pushed for that top spot spot after his stellar sophomore campaign leading the Huffman Vikings back to the final four. Jones had a rather quiet travel season but did manage to pick up an offer from Murray St along the way. With his development continuing to grow, Jones will continue to make a push for the top spot in the class.

WHO ARE THESE KIDS?
Here's a name you might not know about, Mobolaji “BJ” Adesago who played at AISA State Champs Restoration Academy last season. Adesago has now transferred to Carver-Montgomery with his new host family the Mayes' who have been helping kids in basketball throughout the state for some time now. The 6-foot-8 power forward has a nice frame, skilled and knows how to post. We saw him at Nike Memorial Day with the Georgia Stars 16U alongside Wood and others. Prior to playing with the Georgia Stars, Adesago was with the Atlanta Xpress 16U with Anquavious Pollard and Emanuel Littles. Both were more productive on that team than Adesago but like John Petty and Garrison Brooks, a transition from one team to another can make a world of a difference. Adesago's seems to have more upside than Pollard and has better footwork and more fluidity than Littles right now giving him the slight advantage.
Jared Sherfield of Paul Bryant is a smooth wing with size who can knock down the long ball with picture perfect form. He is a decent athlete who plays within himself and doesn't make many mistakes. With his size and skill set, Sherfield will be a kid who may end up jumping into the top 10 following his junior season. We project him to be a kid some of the low-mid major schools will start recruiting once he makes a splash on a bigger stage.

Another kid who improved vastly from March to June was Jayce Willingham of Cordova. He has been in the shadow of brothers Isaac & Mykelti Chatman for the past two years but emerged in during team camps in June. There have been whispers after his performances during Samford & UAB team camps that Willingham looked like the best player for Cordova. With Isaac Chatman holding division-I offers, its a little early to make that move but with Willingham growing 3-4 inches since the end of the high school season it has definitely made it an argument. He has always been a good shooter, handles have improved and the athleticism has come with the height. Cordova will more than likely make it back to the state championship game in 4A and may end up coming out on top with Willingham's improvement.
