Why Is This 6-Foot-9 Forward A Sleeper?
By Kirven Lang
Instantly when you see 6-foot-9 you get intrigued right? Obviously not the case these days as several kids are beginning to fly under the radar again. Kids in Alabama aren't always sleepers but are more so just under appreciated at times when it comes to college recruitment. 2019 Demond Robinson of Robert E. Lee in Montgomery, Alabama is an under appreciated kid who is definitely worthy to be a division-I prospect.
You may begin to say to yourself "Well the kid is only a sophomore, it's early." But look around and see some of his peers who are receiving offers and even some younger than him pick up scholarship offers. With a 7-foot-3 wingspan, a polished skill set and the passion that Robinson exudes every night out, you will begin to question what college coaches are actually looking for these days. Robinson's IQ is very high to be so young with a unique passing ability as you will even see him throwing lobs to teammates at times. He's easily one of the most skilled bigs to play in the state since Demarcus Cousins and it is more of a natural feel for the game right now.
If there are any comparisons to Demarcus Cousins in the state of Alabama since Boogie graduated in 2009, it has to be Demond Robinson. He's vocal on the court, has a similar wing span and his body resembles Big Cuz's. Now you will start to question whether he will be a trouble maker because of the comparison. Not at all because Cousins isn't a trouble maker, he's just passionate and keeps his circle small. (Had to kill that before you started passing judgement.)
Robinson has played on the highest level in high school and travel ball, plus his video has been sent to numerous college coaches. Maybe he will have to prove himself even more during the NCAA Live Period in April at Boo Williams to get the interest to pick up. Recently Alabama inquired but other than that, things have been rather silent. Robinson is pretty much used to it but not satisfied as he will always say "Don't sleep on me!"
